NWC Recognizes Third Yesi Ortiz Back to School Scholarship Recipient
$10,000 Award Highlights Commitment to Changing Lives Through Quality Career Training

WEST COVINA, Calif.—On Monday, November 23, 2015, Yesi Ortiz and Power 106 FM presented Ericka Duran with the third Yesi Ortiz Back to School Scholarship. Ortiz, known as the Voice of LA and official spokesperson and ambassador for North-West College (NWC), presented the award at the North-West College West Covina campus with Duran’s family in attendance. Designed to reduce the financial barriers for individuals interested in continuing their education, the scholarship is valued at $10,000 and can be applied toward any of College’s health care programs.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity and a huge honor to receive this award,” Duran said. “It’s like winning the lottery, but worth more to me because I’ll be getting a great education to better my future.”

Duran has enrolled in NWC’s Eyecare Specialist program and plans to begin her studies in December. A lifelong glasses wearer, Duran explained that she is excited to learn how to assist others with their vision needs. “North-West College’s evening classes work perfectly with my schedule and I should graduate in just eight months!”

Yesi Ortiz shares Duran’s excitement for her new future. “I was so thrilled to present Ericka Duran with the Yesi Ortiz $10,000 Back to School Scholarship to North-West College to help start her exciting new career in health care,” Ortiz said. “Congratulations, Ericka! We are so proud of you.”

Ortiz and North-West College offer the Back to School Scholarship as they continue to partner to change lives through quality education. For more information about North-West College and its programs, please visit www.nw.edu.
